Director of Development

A Call to Men
Remote

Anticipated Start Date: April 1, 2025

Description

As the Development Director, you will provide vital funding cultivation, project management, and donor engagement expertise to our Development department. You’ll come to this role with your love for details, grant/proposal writing, and collaboration. Your ability to foster positive donor experiences, research and write for various funder pools (e.g. philanthropy, foundations, corporate contracts, etc.), track project deliverables, work across multiple departments, and navigate competing priorities will help pave the way for your success in this role.

As a national organization, A Call to Men has staff nationwide, but remains based in New York City. As Development Director, you will thrive in the hybrid nature of this role - working from a home office and traveling for work is required, sometimes daily and on weekends. Given the hybrid nature of this role, we are seeking qualified candidates who love NYC and are familiar with and living within 1 hour of New York City. This position requires a high level of in-person networking, a medium-high amount of travel (NYC and nationwide), and administrative work.

The ability to navigate the city at least 3 times a week is required. A company credit card will be provided to cover all travel expenses both within and outside of NYC. You’ll enjoy working closely with the Chief Development Officer, departmental coordinators, program managers, and multiple director-level staff while reporting directly to the Vice President of Strategy and Education. As our Development Director, you’ll appreciate the relational and collaborative nature of this role.

Who You’ll Work With:

  • You’ll report directly to Avina Ross (Vice President of Strategy and Education).

  • You’ll work closely with Ted Bunch (Chief Development Officer) and Tia Stemn (Program Manager).

Why You’ll Love Working Here:

  • The work of A Call to Men lives at the intersection of gender and racial justice. This role allows you to combine passion with purpose and helps create a safer, more equitable world for all.

Responsibilities

In This Role, You Will…

  • Research new funding opportunities, triage potential funding opportunities for alignment/needs, and manage "potential funder" and "donor" databases;

  • Manage and compile donor data, write content for donor communications, and write annual donor data reports;

  • Assist Vice President of Strategy and Education and Chief Development Officer with grant/proposal writing needs;

  • Support the Development department in achieving annual revenue goals;

  • Manage and track project deliverables for reporting and integrity (with project management meetings, Coalition Manager, etc.);

  • Provide additional support to the Development department, such as assisting with evaluation, developing content for pitch presentations, and assisting with general coordination;

  • Participate in and/or lead meetings and events related to development, fundraising, and project management.

Requirements

What You Know, The Skills You Have, and The Experience You Bring

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including strong presentation skills;

  • A strong degree of experience (3-5 years) in grants and fundraising;

  • At least 1 year of development or networking experience in NYC

  • Expertise in research, database management, and project management;

  • Proficiency with CRM systems (e.g. SalesForce, Coalition Monitor), Quickbooks, and data management systems;

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Google Business Suite, and Adobe Acrobat;

  • A demonstrated ability to operate efficiently in fast-paced, deadline-focused environments;

  • Proven experience handling multiple high-priority projects with high attention to detail, ensuring high-quality outcomes;

  • Proven history of working independently and proactively

  • Ability to establish and cultivate strong relationships both within the organization and externally;

  • A history of working in gender and racial justice spaces is preferred.

Salary Range and Employee Benefits

  • The hiring salary for this role is $100,000.

  • Annual day off along with a $250 gift card in honor of your work anniversary.

  • ummer Fridays – allowing for three-day weekends between June and August when your calendar permits.

  • 401k with a 3% non-matching contribution and a 4% match.

  • Comprehensive health, vision, dental, and life insurance.

  • Annual $5,000 Professional Development Stipend.

  • Annual $5,000 Staff Fund. Use these monies to pay off student loans, put a down payment on a home, etc.

  • Annual Mid-Year Retreat to deepen connection to both the team and the work.

  • Annual Staff Advance for collaborative strategic planning.

  • Opportunities for NYC and national travel outside of the Mid-Year Retreat and Staff Advance.

What The Application Process Looks Like:

We recognize that applying for roles can be time-consuming, and you are many things to many people. Therefore, we aim to keep our interview process as efficient as possible. Our interview process includes a total of three rounds:

  • In Level 1, you’ll meet the first tier of our hiring committee, including the hiring manager (Avina Ross, VP of Strategy and Education).

  • In Level 2, you’ll spend time with a combination of staff on our leadership team.

  • In Level 3, you’ll have an in-person lunch with the hiring manager and COO, followed by a one-on-one in-person interview with the CEO.

  • Travel accommodations will be provided by A Call to Men. This role requires a skills assessment for candidates at Level 2. Because a skills assessment utilizes the same skills that would be used upon hire, applicants will receive compensation upon completion.
